From Caregiver to Healer: My Unexpected Path to Massage Therapy

Hi, I’m Madison—and I’m so glad you’re here!

If you had told me years ago that I’d be running a massage therapy practice, helping people reconnect with their bodies and find peace in their own skin, I might’ve laughed (awkwardly). Back then, I was battling body image issues, struggling with anxiety, and feeling like I was constantly at war with myself. Touch felt foreign. Relaxation felt impossible.

But healing has a funny way of sneaking up on you.

At 20, I found myself at a crossroads. College hadn’t worked out—it felt like trying to sprint through a fog. Between managing depression and anxiety and feeling completely disconnected from my body, I knew I needed something different. So, I did something that felt bold: I moved to the suburbs of Chicago to care for my 92-year-old great-grandmother.

And let me tell you- Ida was a force of nature. A total health nut with a militant devotion to her daily exercises, she’d quote one of her kids from toddlerhood and proudly declare, “Me do it self.” That phrase became her mantra of defiant independence. Even when I tried to lure her into taking a day off, she’d insist on moving, stretching, staying strong. Watching her fight to maintain her independence was humbling—and quietly transformative.

Living with her wasn’t just about helping—it was about witnessing a kind of resilience I’d never seen before. Her discipline and fire stuck with me. She showed me how powerful movement can be—not just physically, but emotionally and spiritually. It planted a seed that would later grow into my passion for massage therapy.

That year slowed me down in the best way. It gave me space to breathe, reflect, and begin healing. And somewhere in that quiet, I signed up for massage school—on a whim. I didn’t know what I was doing, but the moment I started learning anatomy and kinesiology, something clicked in my brain. The information just stuck, and my body felt like it belonged to me again.

Massage therapy became more than a career—it became a calling. A way to help others find what I had found: connection, peace, and the courage to feel good in their own skin.

My goal is to help others find what I’ve found through massage therapy—a deeper understanding and respect for the incredible, living machine that is the human body. If that sounds like something you’re looking for, I’d love to help you find it too.
